CUPPING
Cupping is a technique that uses small glass or plastic cups as suction devices that are placed on the skin to disperse and break up any stagnation or congestion.
The placement, amount of suction, and duration of the cups on the body are tailored to each individual’s needs. At Renew, we utilize two primary methods: stationary cupping and sliding cupping. In sliding cupping, a medicated oil is applied, and the cups are slowly moved across the skin, creating a “reverse massage” effect that can effectively cover a larger area. This technique not only enhances blood circulation but also promotes relaxation in the targeted muscles. In contrast, stationary cupping involves applying medicated oil as well, but the cups remain in place to deliver a more focused treatment to specific areas, allowing for deeper tissue relief and targeted therapeutic benefits. Both methods aim to improve overall well-being by addressing tension, pain, and other health concerns.
What can Cupping treat?
In Chinese Medicine, cupping therapy, much like acupuncture, serves as an effective method for promoting the movement of Qi and blood, which helps alleviate muscle tension, detoxify the skin, enhance the circulatory system, and relieve respiratory congestion associated with common colds and allergies. By restoring the smooth flow of Qi and blood, the body is empowered to initiate its natural healing processes and regain balance. Although side effects are generally mild, they may include temporary discomfort and bruise marks on the skin, which are a normal reaction to the treatment. These marks typically fade within three to eight days as the body continues to recover and restore its equilibrium, making cupping a safe and valuable therapeutic option for improving overall health and well-being.
